I have had some time to use the prime hd 10x42 Now and I love them. I have had the Ed2 10x43 for several years and I am very happy I bought the primes they are much clearer and pick up low light better. I have several hunts planned for this year so I will give a detailed review after season when I have had hours and days of use behind them. But so far I am very pleased (Posted on 8/8/13)

I just recently purchased the Prime HDs and could be happier. They are a very solid built bino. The oculars are bigger than what I'm used to but nothing to be afraid of. The glass is awesome very bright and clear!! The best part is the price, I don't think you will find a better built bino in this price range. Keep them rolling Zen-Ray!! (Posted on 4/11/13)

I'm not a hunter or devoted watcher. I just enjoy the outdoors and like having a top quality compact binocular. I did lots of research and blog reading (had never heard of Zen Ray) and was hesitant to spend the kind of money for Zeiss, Leica, Schw etc where much of the price recoups promotional costs. My reason for such conclusion is a thirty year old pair of Russian ex-navy 10 x 50's which I've never yet bettered for edge to edge clarity. The reviews persuaded me to buy Zen, without seeing (I live in France and they are only available in the US). The agent was genuinely responsive over several email queries. The binoculars are frankly more than I expected - they look good, they feel good and they view good. 5 Stars fully merited! (Posted on 3/18/13)

I dont have a great deal of experience with binoculars so dont have anything to compare my new Zen Ray Prime HD 10x42 binoculars with but as far as i can tell they are a top quality piece of kit and have found them very clear and easy to use.
Also shipping to NZ was no problem.
Keep it up Zen Ray! (Posted on 2/4/13)

The outdoor writers and experts always advise to buy the best optics you can afford and these are the best optics I can afford. Have used them for 2 days on mule deer hunts glassing extensively. They make me want to glass more. This is such a step up from what I am used to, I truly feel like if it's out there I will see it! (Posted on 10/14/12)

  7. The Best Binoculars I have ever used Review by Mike

I do not usually bother writing reviews but Zen Ray deserve one here. I did have some concern buying Chinese made binoculars for this price, I read the reviews and thought it was worth the risk. The quality of the product is truely 5 star, the shipping was quick and the goods were well packaged. I have not had to use the customer service to claim the lifetime warranty yet and hope that I never do but if they stand true to their word, that is another attractive feature for the product. Thanks Zen Ray! (Posted on 10/4/12)

  8. Not "alphas"? But they sure are "Prime"! Review by Osage Archer

I have new Z-R 10x42 Primes (I "bit the bullet" and upgraded from Z-R 10x43 ED3s). I also have new Swarovski 10x32 EL Travelers. Both these are very very good and I'm keeping them both - but if Zen-Ray ever makes a 10x32 Prime with the same optical and mechanical excellence as the 10x42 Primes and for around the same price, I'll be selling the Swaros and replacing them with the 10x32 Primes! 9. Great, but for some hand and eyes only Review by Arjun

    Quality

The quality of the optics in the new Zen Ray is really wonderful. I have a Zen Ray ED2, and I can clearly see the optical improvement between this binoculars and that pair - they let in more light, and have a noticeably larger field of view.

However, I want to note that these binoculars are also quite a bit smaller than the Zen Ray ED2s. At first, this seems good, because they are lighter, and easier to hold. However, for people with larger hands - they may also be harder to stabilize, because the binoculars are shorter. For example, despite the fact that the Prime HD have better optical characteristics, I can see greater detail, at longer distances, with my ED2, simply because I can stabilize it better.

However, in contrast, my mother - who I bought these binoculars for - has much smaller hands, and she finds it perfectly simple to stabilize these binoculars - and much prefers them to my ED2.

In addition, the Prime HD appear to be better for people with smaller Interpupilliary distance. The images from the two eyes seem to merge better, and it is easier to look through the entire field of view.

My father and I found that, when looking through the edges of the field of view, we would often find black banding - because of the wild field. However, my mother, who has a much smaller IPD than us - faced no such trouble.

As such, I think this binoculars are optically wonderful. However, one must try them to see if they happen to fit with yourself - it is not a binoculars which can be adjusted to fit anyone. Nevertheless, for those who it does fit, I highly recommend it. (Posted on 9/29/12)

  10. Excellent Glass Review by JNDEER

I am not a birder, but a hunter. I have owned mostly middle line binoculars (bushnell, Vortex, Nikon) all around the $500 mark. Paying $2000 for a pair of bino's was out of the question for me and my hope was to find a pair in my price range that could get me as close to the big boys as possible. This glass is super clear early to late. Glassing towards the sun proved helpful as the reflective coatings worked wonders. Comparing them directly to my Razor (non-HD), they are leaps and bounds better as far as seeing a crisp image all the time and espically in the early and late light glassing. (Posted on 8/25/12)

  11. Big Bang for your Buck Review by Sportsman

To expand on my "Star" ratings:

Price - 5 Stars is accurate. I took advantage of a $150 off special. Is there a comparable pair of binoculars at this price point? Not that I can find.
Value - If it were an option, I would have assigned the Prime HDs Eight Stars in this category. Was I skeptical about paying even the discounted price for a pair of Chinese manufactured binoculars? Yes. Despite all the positive reviews, I had to see them and use them to believe the claims. For those who have the money to spend 4 to 5 times this price for German binos, go for it. Alphas set the standard, and the brand loyalty they inspire is priceless. Luckily, for those of us who are more value minded by necessity (saving for retirement, college education, etc), Zen Ray is in hot pursuit of excellence, as defined by the best of the best.
Quality - Yes, 4 Stars overall.
Optical Quality - Solid 5 Stars. But compared to Alpha binos, the tiny details of armour fit and finish are not where they should be - yet. Given the pace of evolution in their product line so far, my guess is that Zen Ray will continue to make improvements and compete with the big dogs.
    Extra Category - Service - 5 Stars.
Let's face it, these days it's not easy to provide a human being to answer or return phone calls, especially if you are a huge company. Zen Ray is hitting a home run in this category, and I hope they continue to do so. (Posted on 8/24/12)

  12. Prime HD 10x42 Review by Dennis UK

    First Impressions.

Fit, feel, build quality is first rate, comparable to my SV 8.5x42, Zeiss FL 8x32, Nikon EDG 8x32.

Focus is smooth with no free play, the hinge mechanism is firm but not too tight and the dioptre ring has enough resistance so as not to be inadvertently moved.

Internally, my sample is spotlessly clean, no dust, grease, glue or visible oil. The quality of the internal finishing looks excellent.

    Optical Quality.

    In a word, Superb.

Bright, very sharp across the entire FOV, right to the edge.
Image definition and clarity is as good as the SV with just a little more visible CA towards the outer edge compared to the SV.
Eye relief is excellent; I can see the entire FOV with no blackouts. The view is nice, relaxed and for me fatigue free.

The image definitely has the WOW factor.

Overall, I am absolutely delighted with my Prime HD. Its optical performance is comparable with the best available, only losing out in the control of CA at the edge of the FOV. Even here it is by no means objectionable.

I’ve left the value for money aspect till last. VFM = Outstanding.

Please Note: The comments and opinions expressed here are mine and relate solely to this pair of binoculars. (Posted on 8/23/12)

After months upon months of research and many products tested including the so called "Alpha's" I kept coming back to the Zen-Ray ED line. Although I did not get a chance to view a pair of Prime HD I did look through the ED-3's and was amazed. I could not find any bad reviews about the optics just the quality and those were just minor issues. I purchased the 8x42's and all I can say is WoW! For the price there is no other glass on the market period ill never own another brand EVER. Absolutely Incredible pair of Binoculars -MIKE- (Posted on 8/6/12)

I purchased the PRIME HD binoculars based on the review of ZR products online and in Outdoor Life. I contacted Charles from ZR and he was most helpful explaining the advantage of the PRIME 10x42. I usually do not buy anything without personally using it firs;. BUT I trusted my research and I am very pleased with this product. It is substantial, easy to focus and handle. The clarity is amazing. I will be using these for big game hunting this Fall. This is by far the best value I've found in optics! (Posted on 8/4/12)
