I bought a pair of Swarovski 10x for our lakeside cottage. They live on a tripod. I bought a pair of Zen ED2 10x42 to take the heat off of the Swarofski's, (I don't have to hand the $1500 ones to kids to see what adults are seeing.) My Zen's are super compared to my more expensive ones. Yes, the Swarovskis are a bit brighter but I don't feal the least bit odd about using the Zen's. Would I reccommend them to friends, absolutely. In my 68 years, these are maybe my 5 and 6th pair of binoculars.

I just returned from safari in Tanzania and I am so happy that I had these binoculars with me...I was amazed at the wildlife that I could see in amazing detail so far away! I ended up removing the front lens covers as they came off on their own too easily. The only problem I have had is that one of the eyepiece adjusters is jammed...probably my accidental undoing. I will definitely refer friends to this product. (Posted on 9/23/11)

I have been looking around for a new pair of ten power binoculars for guiding and hunting. I found some people that really liked Zen Ray on different forums and wanted to try some. I usually have to try a product before I will buy it, but I decided to take a chance on them. I'm glad I did. They are some of the best glass that I have looked through. The price is what really caught my attention. My wife and I are expecting our first kid at the end of December, so I didn't have as much money to spend as I originally planned. If you need a new pair of binos and don't have a lot of money (or even if you do) give Zen Ray a chance, they are worth it. (Posted on 7/1/11)

I bought the Zen-ED2 10X43 and these are the best binoculars that I have ever used. I found out about them on archerytalk.com and the reviews were right they are worth every penny. I use them for hunting and 3d archery and they work great, they really let you see the 10 ring at long distances under low light conditions. Several of my buddies I shoot league with have Swarovski binoculars and even they were amazed by how well they worked. In fact one of guys said that he actually thought that the Zen-Rays worked better than his Swarovski when we traded for a couple of targets. I myself like them so much that I will be buying another pair for my dad who likes to bird watch.

Took these bino's on a Sambar hunt over the weekend, very impressed with the low light performance. The main positives I have found with these binoculars are:
    - Very light, perfect for backpack hunting
    - value for money, extremely impressed when placed alongside my Swarovski 15x56's which cost me alot more
    - pleasant on the eye.
Extremely happy and have recommended these to others here in Australia who hunt Sambar Deer.
    Thanks, Mladen. (Posted on 6/15/11)

I tried a buddy’s Zen Ray binoculars and was all the sudden very disappointed with my current pair of binoculars. So I went home and sold my binoculars and ordered me a pair of Zen ED2 10X43 I was amazed I ordered them late on a Friday and they were at my door on Monday. I couldn’t believe how fast they came. I talked with the people at Zen Ray a time or two and Emailed a couple questions to them, they were amazingly helpful answered all my questions and even helped straighten out a mistake I had made when ordering. I tried the binoculars in low light and was amazed again at how bright and clear they are I know that’s what most the review have said but its TRUE you need to see them to believe them. These binoculars would sell themselves. All you would have to do is show these side by side with any binoculars that retail for $800 or more they would see that the quality of the Zen Ray’s are great glass and would hold their own against any binocular out there. Then you state the price of the binoculars and anyone would pick the Zen Ray’s for the Quality and the PRICE. You won’t find a better set of binoculars out there. I will gladly show these to everyone I know. Everyone who has seen them says WOW these are the best I have laid hands on. Many of my friends want to get some for themselves, I can’t blame them for wanting a pair of Zen Ray’s I wanted them too!! Now I just want to try to get a spotting scope from Zen Ray.
P.S the case these binoculars come with is an ingenious case. These are the best case I have ever seen any binocular come with. I have never wanted to use the case the other binoculars come with as I have thought them to be useless and more of a hindrance then they did good. Also the lens covers actually stay on which is a huge accomplishment in my opinion as all the other binoculars have struggled in this department.

I saw this from a buddy and ordered me a pair I have loved them from the time a saw them now I have a pair and love them even more. The case they come in is ingenious and by far the best case I have seen any binocular come with. I would put these binoculars in the class of $1000+ but not paying that for them. Everyone who as seen them says they can’t believe the detail and light they have. Everyone says they would like to by a pair. These binoculars sell themselves. I think selling these would be easy as saying take a look through these, then have them look through a pair that retails for $800+, tell then the price or the Zen ray and everyone would pick the Zen rays. I have also look at the spotting scope and think I will be getting one soon. (Posted on 6/7/11)

After my family and I came back from Yellowstone National Park, we decided to buy a good binoculars to be able to see wild animals in low light environments, such as dusk. I searched some binocular forum online and found good reviews of optics quality of Zen ED2 at the affordable range. I ordered the binoculars on Zen Ray website and got it soon. I also compared the pair of binoculars with other brands and it showed more vivid color and higher contrast than others about similar price range. I can't wait to use it when we go back to Yellowstone again.

Got a pair of 10x43 ed 2's, really happy with them so far. Appreciated the reviews that you guys have given on bino's here, and I pretty much agree with most I've read about them. Compared them to vortex's, nikons, etc and I think they are the best glass I looked through for under 1k. Honestly, I really couldn't see the difference from the 2k+ glasses until you looked 1/2 mile out. These seemed to be as good for low light stuff as the high end stuff as far as I could tell. Great light gathering for 10x43 (smaller exit pupil than I'm used to.)

The lens cap rings do seem like they could slip off easily so I'll add a dab of glue to keep them from falling off. The case is a little snug with the straps attached but seems pretty sturdy, time will tell how the zipper holds up with bunching it in there.

I decided on the 10x's over the 8's because I couldn't see any difference in low light between them, unlike some other brands and I mostly hunt open area. If you're looking in this price range I'd recommend these as I'm pretty happy with them so far.

Writting from Spain, so excuse for my poor English.
As you know in Europe we have excelent optics (Zeiss, Swarovski, Leica, Minox, Docter, Steiner...). The problem: the price. I have scopes and binos from some of these brands, bur recently I ordered a pair of ZR-ED2 binoculars to leave them in my car, as a spare pair of binoculars, because I read excellent reviews and the price was amazing.
When I received them I was absolutly surprised. Excelllent quality (mechanic), excelllent lenses (no chromatic aberration, no peripherical distorsion, very very bright and sharp image) and amazing field of view. I can say in most situations I cannot apreciate difference with first germany brands, just in case of almost not light (hunting in moonlight) I can see just a little bit better witn my Swarovsky and Leicabinos (same power and frontal lens, more or less).
I dont like the green color (abolutly personal, of course), and I dont like the neck strap (dont know the name), with big and bright ZEN RAY letters written in the neoprene). The ocular cover is perfet, the frontal covers not good (you will loose themin a few days) and the cover box perfect.
I have too Minox HG 10x52 (around 1100 euro in Spain) and image if absolutly the same in daytaime and in night conditions, but ZR ED2 has much more field of view.

Thats all, sorry again for my English...

Bought a pair of the 10x43 ED2 binos and could not be happier with them. As others have said, the lens caps are the only thing that leaves anything to be desired (although I dont know of ANY binos that come with good lens caps). Very clear, bright, and the colors are great through them. Never thought I would find myself watching the birds in my back yard but the detail and color is impressive. The coating on the lenses is awesome as well. Water just sheets off..... I had a buddy's dad that has Swaro EL's look through them the other night when it was cloudy and starting to get dark and he was amazed at what he saw, and what I paid for them.... I first spent some time looking thru 3 of the top brands from Japan, Austria & the US. After that, having receiving the ED2 binos, I am very impressed with the brightness & crisp clarity. My impression is these are slightly brighter or at least as bright in light gathering as the $2500 binos I checked first. I checked out some blacktail deer on my property where I frequently have viewed them in the past thru my old binos. I could hardly believe the detail I could see - every hair. Only improvement I could think of is a little tighter ring that holds the objective lens caps on. Mine have fallen off a couple of times. Fantastic quality & value. (Posted on 5/5/11)

I love these binos. I went from a pair of Nikon chepes to these and there is simply no comparison. The quality is great, and the customer support from Zen Ray is top notch. I spent several weeks researching and looking through different binos prior to my purchase and I am stoked that I got the 10x43 ED2.

These glasses definitely compare to some of the more expensive $800-$1000 range binoculars that are on the market today.

Before buying, I borrowed a pair of the 10X43 ED from a friend. After one day in the woods I was a strong believer of them. I ordered my ED2 the very next day!!!

    Thanks Zen Ray!!

  15. Exceptional build quality and optical brilliance. Review by Vinmol

I have collected numerous brands including two of the big Euro brands and always thought them hard to beat. After placing my order it took 8 days to arrive in Melbourne Australia safe and sound. Customer care along the way was provided by Charles and was polite and timely. I received the Zen ED2 10x43s in the late afternoon and was able to compare them immediately. That's what you do,looking for better for less? Before opening the well constructed black box I began to think the hype is warrented. On removing them from the black formed carry case my immediate thought was wow...these are a quality binocular. I thought this as early as sliding the ocular lens cover off. It had a sure suction to it that would undoubtably keep the dust out. They moulded to my hand thanks to the open bridge design and captured my thumb very comfortabley with the indent under the body of the minocular, one handed of course. My view was off my rear porch that looks across to the North West in a heavily vegitated eucalypt forest with rolling hills out to about 10 kms. The sun was fairly low on the horrizon and cast a beautiful warm glow across the tree tops and the vivid blue sky formed a fabulous backdrop for contrast. A large flock of White Cockatoos cascaded across the FOV demonstrating the true contrast cabability of the optic. The color fidelity was very realistic and saturated with true color. After a ten year drought in Australia the vegitation hasn't looked this green and lush for 25+ years. Birdlife is lush with all sorts of local species but predominantly parrots.Crisp and clear views with a definate outline to all within. especially distant details of even fence lines on hillsides. In the foreground framing the view is a 90 ft pine tree with cones and upstanding needles. Their dark and sharp contrast was especially noteworthy because of the effortless clicks of the diopter adjustment and the incedible sharpness of the needles against the evening sky. A proper diopter adjustment is always the first step when lookiing through a new binocular and quickly evolves the true potential of the optics. This pine tree also allowed me to test what the low light capability was. At the base of this tree at about 40 metres out there was darkened area amongst some shrubs. My wife loves her chooks and we have been trying to establish where one of the hens were laying. We'd been missing several eggs a day for a week or so. When I glassed the area under the tree purely for testing in low light I spyed the chooks missing nest with her happily nesting on a bed of pine needles. I could clearly see the chook and was able to literally look into her small light protected patch..something I hadn't done before. The extra light tranmission was amazingly bright given the time of day. Looking beyond the trees over rolling hills I noted that cattle and even kangaroo movements could be spotted at over 5-6 kms.. The extra clarity in the optical system of the ED2's allowed this. Being a glasses wearer I found the ocular contact really comfotable and being able to take in the full FOV. (best feature) ..The focussing system was smooth and positive, quickly bringing into focus everthing from a close range view out to infinity. Either view the butterfly on a leaf or eagle overhead. Precision focussing in a precision instrument. Without critisizing other brands I consider the bang for buck in the Zen Ray ED2 series exceptional. A wonderful product that can only get better from here. My next? ED 8x43's and I'll buy them with total confidence thanks to Charles from Zen Ray. I realise I'm not comparing apples with apples but its great to be able to purchse a binocular of this quality and have a hand in perhaps making the others re-think and try harder.

Having used Nikon Monarch ATBs for several years, these bins had their work cut out for them to beat what I was used to. I'm impressed that a 10x43 could have a FOV of 341 feet @ 1,000 yds. In glassing birds, trees, and other ridgeline objects, the ED quality of the glass stands out--chromatic aberration is notably controlled compared to the Monarch's. Focus wheel is crisp and the build is sturdy. The eye relief seemed a bit shorter than what I expected but that could be due to using 8x for years and finally trying out these 10x-ers. These binos did NOT beat out the Nikon EDG IMHO, but you'd have to spend $1,800 to get your hands on a pair of those. To top it all off, the ZRs come in a really snazzy form fitted carrying case. Way to go, Zen Ray! (Posted on 3/22/11)

I work with man who used to work for one of the premier national sporting goods stores. He worked at their flagship store/headquarters and has had a lot of exposure to upper end optics. He new that I was researching top end binocs so he told me about the ZEN ED2 binocs that he had just purchased and how great of a value they are for their quality. After trying his pair of ZEN ED2's, I quickly realized that their optical quality and design was comparable to other brands that I had been trying out in the $1200 to $2000 price range. I ordered my own pair of ZEN ED2 10x43's that same day! What a great set of binoc's and what a great value! I have never been able to afford such a superior set of optics. Low light comparison, !00% given to the winner of the catagory, with % value following.
    Brightness: 100% ED2; 94% EL
    Amazing. Swaro known for image
    brightness, yet ED2 noticeably brighter.
Clarity: Even. Again surprising given the
reputation of the world's foremost optics
    manufacturer.
    Edge clarity: 100% EL; 96% ED2
Very slight blurriness detected in the
edges of the field, but you have to look
for it. No image bending or distortion.
    Color Rendering: Even. Both pairs
    appear true.
    Ergonomics: 100% EL; 95% ED2
Both pairs were comfortable in the hand,
    with user friendly eyecups and
adequate eye relief. Focus knobs were
smooth, but the edge goes to the ELs
as they were more refined. To be fair,
these were an earlier pair of ED2.

Overall the ED2 compared favorably. There's a new standard of value when it
comes to high quality optics, and it starts with Zen-Ray.

I use these glasses, and will not switch. I have owned several sets of glass over 1000 dollars and these beat all of them. These were by far the brightest glass I have ever used. The amount of light transmission is incredible.

As far as clarity, they are atleast as clear as anything else I have ever used. Clarity was on par or better than anything else. It wasn't necessarly better, but as good for sure. But when these sell for a little over 400 and the others are over 1200 I find this to be an incredible value.

Overall, to find a set of glass that is as good or better than these, get ready to spend 2000 dollars. Value of these binoculars is beyong belief. (Posted on 3/13/11)

These binoculars have some of the best glass on the market, especially for the price. I had Vortex Vipers before buying these, and the Zen-Ray glass is much crisper, is much brighter in low light, and more accurate colors.
The eye cup relief didn't allow me to get the full field of view with my glasses that sit pretty far off my face, but it wasn't too bad. The focus knob had a little play, but definitely not a show stopper.

For the price, ED2s are the best binocular I have ever looked through. I gave it 4/5 stars in quality because I've looked through some $2500 binoculars and they are simply better, no question. For only that reason it didn't earn all five stars. However, it takes a price difference of $2000 to really surpass ED2s in image quality.

The water repellent coating on the outside lens work great. I tested them out, flicked a bunch of water on them and could still see very clearly. Most just ran off leaving a few drops behind.

Can glass for long periods of time without discomfort or fatigue, are easy to pack around, and I would certainly buy another if I were in the market. Possibly the 7x36 now that I think about it.

My only complaint is a very small one, the objective lens caps. They can and have come off while hiking around, but a little drop of glue around the ring that holds them on fixed that. After that, leave them over the lens, let them hang off, they're not going anywhere.

Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for good binoculars. Excellent customer service as well. (Posted on 3/10/11)

The bins are really good for the price and well worth the $425 .

    nice binoculars!

After checking out my coworker's ZEN ED2, I think this one will work for me. I originally put aside $1600 for a pair of really nice binoculars. But after seeing the ED2, there is potential saving of $1200. Till this day after 4 months of heavy use, I am still impressed with the binoculars. The open bridge european design is just easy to hold. It is 27oz. But feels like mid size 20 oz binoculars because of good weight balance. Optically, it is fascinating to see how clear it is. I am not an optics expert and can only share what I see.

    Pro:
    1. Brightness
    2. Clarity
    3. FOV is huge for 10x.
    4. The color abberation is well controlled, better than many more expensive sets I owned.
    5. Price. don't know how zenray did it. It is one big package packed under around $400.

    Cons:

just a couple of minor complaints
The objective lens covers can be a little tighter. But I got a spare set when I ordered mine.

Verdict: it is the best binoculars i have tried under $1500, period. Of course, you can always spend more. But why would you? (Posted on 8/17/10)
