Big and Bold! Review by Stormbird
Price Value Quality I've used my ZR 10x42 monocular for nearly a year. This extremely well built mini telescope goes with me every time I leave the house. While physically on the large size the 10x42 is a powerful tool for daily use. The next step up is a spotting scope.
The sharpness is excellent right up to the edge of the field of view. Viewing Jupiter shows a very sharp, round image, with four pinpoint moons visible.
The focus mechanism is precise with enough resistance to maintain it's position. Same for the twist up eye cup. The one minor negative? The supplied objective/eyepiece covers. Lol. What happened? Such a superb instrument, but the loose fitting covers need to improve.
Bottom line... I've owned ~40 binoculars and telescopes in recent years. My current setup is a Takahashi w/Televue Naglers. So I have some experience with quality optics. The ZR 10x42 monocular is a great piece of equipment, especially for the price. I'm ordering a set of ED2 binoculars 7x36 demo units. I expect this this to be another rewarding purchase. The Perfect Solution Review by Rick
Value Quality Price I bought my 10x42 monocular almost a year ago, and I love it. I don't see through both eyes equally, so quality binoculars were unnecessarily costly and heavy for my needs. And I wanted something light enough to not mind carrying it around all day. Mostly I'd been making do with compact binoculars or small monoculars with limited brightness and field of view. I took a chance on the ZRS HD-M and the field of view and brightness are amazing. It's literally one-half of a quality binocular. It weighs about half the weight of a full binocular as well and is very effective for viewing with glasses.
One minor issue in construction, when the eyepiece refused to retract while on vacation (where it got banged around a lot). But Zen-Ray quickly repaired it and it's like new.
I agree with other posters that a better connection system for an alternative neck or sling strap would be appreciated, but it's a minor issue. Same with the loose lens caps. A great value overall. (Posted on 11/29/11) -
Excellent monocular Review by Greg
Price Value Quality I am very pleased with my purchase. The monocular was a little bigger than I had anticipated but after using it can't criticize it at all. Excellent optics and easy to focus. I made a strap to hold the lens covers in place while not in use but would have been fine without it. I have several other monoculars but none as good as the Zen Ray. (Posted on 10/29/11)

Great value Review by Tjej
Quality Price Value My mission was to obtain a fine optics to be in the truck at all times. I have an older pair of Nikon (10x20) serving that function now.
I originally ordered the 8x42 Monocular and while I was very pleased with the optic quality, the focus ring was very tight..so tight , one had to grip the barrel very hard to focus. I called and was cheerfully invited to return it. (this is my third Zen Ray product and the customer service is just absolutely the very best). While the 8X was very good, and since this was going to be for occasional viewing, I requested a 10x42 replacement.
I am a happy camper. This monocular is sharp to the edges, clean and comfortable to use. In fact, my spouse, is now learning how to keep both eyes open while viewing and that is passing onto using the scopes more comfortably...an added bonus. I have a pair of Zeiss 8x20 binoculars for the car and am giving some serious thought to adding another monocular to my collection to replace the Zeiss. They are that good.....even better.. Brighter, waterproof, and wider field of view. These monoculars are a high value, money well spent great deal. Get one!
Just to be fully open an honest. The lens caps continue to be a challenge for Zen Ray...do not fit, but a touch of super glue solves that for the bottom, but the top needs much work. As has been mentioned before an easier wasy to have a neck strop attachment would be nice.

Just what I was looking for. Review by Rollie
Quality Price Value I have a set of 8x42 binoculars that I love, but at 27 oz. they don't get to go that often. I also wanted something for impromptu star watching. My other 6 optical units are either too low quality, or to powerful, or way too heavy to do it all. I debated the 8x42 vs. 10x42, and as I had 8x42 binoculars, I went with the 10x42. Right decision! The 10x42 field of view is only slightly less than my binoculars, but the detail due the 10x and high quality optics make a much better view in the daytime. I was even more impressed at night. Although best to brace against something, the sharp image rivals the favored binoculars to 2nd place. Excellent! The 8x42 bio's are heavy and of lesser power, so don't shake as much, but the 10x42 shows more detail and are brighter than the bio's. This is the high quality, light weight, do everything well, optical device I have been looking for. Goes with me everywhere. (Posted on 6/3/11)
