I have had the ED2 scope for about 3 weeks now and am extremely impressed by its performance and overall build quality.

For starters this scope is exceptionally compact and reasonably lightweight for an 82 mm scope. It is slightly shorter and noticeably lighter than the Theron Mag82 scope that I also have in my possession.

Highpoints of this scope include:

- Excellent dual speed focusing knob. Precise adjustments to focus are easily made with the fine focus feature. The focusing speed and tension, at both levels, is very, very good.

- Overall quality of construction is excellent. There isn't any sign of quality control problems in any of the usual areas.

- The scope's true strong point though is its optical performance. Color fringing is wonderfully well controlled with any of the factory supplied eyepieces (20-60x, 25-50x or 30x wide angle). The standard zoom is of excellent construction and offers a reasonably wide field of view. Its only weakness is a loss of the field stop edge at various point throughout the magnification range. Centerfield performance in all eyepieces is very good to excellent and certainly on par with any of the scopes I have tried at this point.

I have also had the opportunity to try various 1.25 inch astro eyepieces in the scope (handheld mostly) and the optical performance improves even more.

This is certainly one of those scopes that will perform at or above all of your expectations! (Posted on 7/14/11)

I´ve had the scope for a few weeks,and have used it almost daily,either in Day or night time..I seem to be getting a better impression every day I use it..
It tested very well in Stars observation showing excellent correction,and offering among the sharpest views of pinpoint stars across then entire field of view.
Views at 20X are typical of high quality scopes..Bright, Sharp and contrasty images that are pleasant and totally free of aberrations.
High power images ,60X and beyond,Are not that typical..IN FACT are EXTRAORDINARY...Hig power is the ultimate test for optics,and the ZEN scope passes with high grades.at 60X the image is the Brightest I have seen,and remains free of aberrations and false color up to 160X and even 240X,when boosted to such power.Very impressive.
The Scope Build quality is also impressive,and shows a trend of improving quality that seems to be ZEN´s motto.

This thing is nasty sharp. No CA that I can see. I can't find anything wrong with it. Everything looks and feels great on it. The case is surprisingly nice too. Totally excellent across the board. I love it. (Posted on 5/19/11)

After reading the reviews I was a little skeptical. After talking with owners of this product and others from Zen-Ray I decided to give this spotter a try, I glad I did! Have compared this to friends other known names in the optics world and it has meeted or exceeded what theirs can do out in the feild. Looking forward to back country trips with it to see what I have been missing without this in my pack. Looking now to start adding other products from Zen-Ray and have no dout they will be the same. We had the opportunity to test a demo unit during about a 3 month period that included a trip to alaska, 4 hard mountian hunts in Idaho, and numerous range visits. We we also able to compare the Zen Ray ED 2 to other "Alpha" brand units. The brightness and clarity through the entire focus range is as good as you will find in this range spotter. We were able to age sheep at up to 3 full miles in damp conditions with no problems. The edge to edge clarity is sharp as well. This is a huge help when really picking out animals in a full field of view. Size is right for a unit in the 82 mm class and the cover is a nice touch. Build quality was very high and the ability to remove the eyepiece is nice during travel, especially to Alaska and the mountianous regions. For the hunter or observer looking for the best in a full size spotting scope optic this is as good as it gets comparing any glass up to about $2500.00. Very good product. I have spent some time with the scope comparing it to other scopes, some in the same price range and sum much more expensive. If you are looking for a scope in the 80mm class this should be your scope. The case fits good the EP is high quality and the custumer service is some of the best I have delt with. (Posted on 3/18/11)
