  1. It would be very difficult for you to find any binocular with this price quality. Review by Guipuchi

This bino has an oustanding price/quality ratio. Optically is excellent, ergonomically is very good, and mecanically very good too. The seven-fold magnification ratio and good ergonomics translate in very steady images when you hold it in your hands.

The most impressive feature for me is it's huge field of view., more that any other in its class range. This feature made this binos perfect for use in the woods or in urban terrain. A first class, when all the features are considerated.

The only fault that I have found in mine, is a slight hysteresis in the focus knob. Not a great issue, and I don't know if my item is unique in this aspect or that fault is common in all the series. But, I have just said, is only a very slight nuisance.

The only characteristic that I would like to see in this bino is that the frame should be made of magnesium alloy for still a more lighter weight.

I purchased my Zen-Ray 7x36 from Spain, and I rate the handling and shipping service from Zen-Ray ten points of ten.

My only real complaint is that Zen-Ray does not make an ultra-compact 6x30 or 6x28 binocular with similar astounding price/quality ratio and stunning field of view. If they someday make one of these, I'll buy it "ipso facto". (Posted on 5/18/16)

  5. Optically and ergonomically STUNNING Review by DavidinWA

Sometimes in life one must make a touch decision. Already owning a top binocular (Nikon 8x32 SE), i really didnt NEED an ed2 to enjoy fine viewing pleasure; however, after meeting with Charles at the company headquarters and testing out various binoculars, i couldn't put down the 7x36 ed2's! I love porro-prism's, simple as that. But with these cutting-edge, lightweight, ergonomic-as-they-come roof prism binoculars, i wasn't shaving anything, performance-wise, except price, when compared to my 8x32 SE. You simply won't believe how good these ed2's actually are. I truly feel they are a better OVERALL binocular for an active lifestyle.
Now, to the decision. Rather than keep both excellent binoculars for myself, i reluctantly gave the ed2's to my father for his birthday present to replace his aging and obese fujinon binoculars. Was it tough? You bet it was. However, after a few hours of father/son glassing time, I knew i made the right decision when he turned to me on the way home and said "Thank you, these are beautiful." 6. Truly excellent Image quality and wonderful Handling Review by M.M

    Quality

The current version of the Zen EDII 7x ,call it the "glare free" version, gathers too many qualities in the binocular to ignore that it is a truly unique and great binocular.
First of all, is one of the few 7x ,high quality ,roof binoculars in the mid price end. That singularity alone makes it worth to try. And once You try it, It can not be ignored that the binocular creates a SUPERB view. It is extremely sharp ,bright, and PA-NO-RA-MIC...,Focussing action and speed are also good, due in part by the extraordinary depth of field of this configuration.
Ergonomics are excellent..not too large, not too small and definitely well balanced in weight.
There are many serious reviews of this binocular stating its superb class. For me to reccomend the binoculars,is not too risky.Five stars (Posted on 4/19/11)

Super bright with a huge field of view. CA is very well controlled. Very lightweight and easy to use one-handed. Everything I want in a binocular, and for a reasonable price....and all this from a local, honest, and hardworking businessman. THANK YOU! (Posted on 4/6/11)

  8. Excellent all-purpose binoculars Review by Christian

    Quality

For me 7x35/36 wide angle roof binoculars are a serious alternative as all-purpose binoculars to the wide spread 8x32s. Being only slightly bulkier and heavier they have the advantage of a very steady image even after exhausting activities such as biking. The brighter image due to the bigger exit pupilla extends the field of application to dawn and makes the use more comfortable. The venerable Leitz Trinovid 7x35B was one of the last binoculars of this kind. After a long hiatus the Zen-Ray 7x36 appeared, featuring on top all achievements of modern binoculars. The contrast and the brightness are excellent, the color fidelity is very good, and the image sharpness in the center is astonishing. My wish list is short: the eye cups should be tighter and feature one further intermediate position. At the margin of the field of view the optics could be sharper with less distortion but I believe this would be beyond the cost frame.
I ordered the Zen-Ray from Germany, the shipping worked well and quite fast, one week delay was due to German customs. The price of $375 translates with the inclusion of international shipping, importation VAT and customs duty to about 400 euros. Taking into account that binoculars of this quality in Germany easily exceed 1000 euros the Zen-Ray 7x36 is still a bargain. (Posted on 4/3/11)

  9. Fantastic Review by Brendan

I have had my 7x36 for about a year now. I started with the 8x43EDs, and then switched to these. I loved the 8x43s, but I love these even more. The size is big enough to be solid but small enough (just a tad smaller than the 8x43s) to be even more comfortable in my hand. The ergonomics are perfect (for me). The optics are beautiful. The super-wide FOV and the incredible DOF makes these perfect birding binoculars for me. I mostly do birding in woods/scrub setting, where birds are close but hard to find.

Also, the Zen-Ray team has been remarkably responsive and accomodating when I've called/emailed with service issues.

Overall, I couldn't recommend these binoculars highly enough. (Posted on 3/25/11)

  10. Excellent optics in a less than perfect package Review by Greg

    Quality

The optics rival alpha glass. Bright, clear view with no color aberration. Huge field of view that makes for excellent brush birding. I am extremely satisfied with the view through these binoculars.
    The nit-picky:
As other reviewers noted the objective covers don't fit, and i bought a set of aftermarket covers that work well.
The focus is not as fast as i would like. It takes too much travel to get from distant viewing to close up.
The focus wheel on my set has an occasional grinding noise. It makes me wonder if longevity will be an issue down the road,

Even with those minor issues if i lost these, i'd buy another pair in a heartbeat. (Posted on 3/23/11)

Great binoculars! Compared to others we considered these were a real buy. The company was very helpful, they came quickly and they compared visually very favorably with our friends' much more expensive other brand. Now we will need another pair probably as it is hard to share. (Posted on 3/22/11)

These are our first 'real' binoculars and they are wonderful. Everything is very bright and clear; adjustments are easy. Staying by the ocean we could distinguish birds at sea that weren't even visible before.Wish they were smaller and lighter.....but that's what we had before and they were junk, so we aren't complaining. The case is good too. Wish there were some easy way to keep track of the lens covers. (Posted on 3/22/11)

Oh my goodness. BUY THESE! So awesome. Admittedly the only other comparison I had were a pair of 5 yo binocs and a pair of 15 yo binocs. But still, DAMN! SO BRIGHT! SO CLEAR! AWESOME FOV. No stiffness in the focus knob, like butter. Oh and the Depth of Field is AMAZING! I barely have to move the focus knob to change from 50 to 500 yards. GET THESE! YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPPOINTED! Oh, and great customer service. I emailed Zen-Ray, and they took care of me! Will definitely buy Zen Ray again! I can't imagine a better pair of Binoculars, at ANY Price!

    Thanks Zen-Ray. (Posted on 3/20/11)

  14. Love 'em Review by Anders

I have used my binoculars for birding for about 1 1/2 year now and I love 'em. The optical quality is excellent, and they are water proof. Other birders who have looked through my bins have been very impressed, and my local birding guides recommend these to anyone who ask for advice now. One guy who had recently bought a pair of Swarovski said he they were comparable and that he was - "price tag envy".

My only gripe is that I lost the objective lens covers very quickly. The friction between the rubber rings and my clothing made them roll, and at some time they rolled off. It would be nice if they would have been attached to the bins body in some other way.

Everything good I could say about the optics has been said. Have had mine for about a year and a half and they're my "go-to" glass for most birding. One minor niggle is that the focus wheel gets a bit stiff in cold weather, but so do I!! Most top notch manufacturers are known for good product support, but none could be better than Zen-Ray, highly recommended. (Posted on 12/14/10)

After reading many reviews and comparing prices, performance and features I chose these Zen-Ray 7x36 ED2's over everything else. I'm glad I did. They provide 99% of the "Alpha" performance at a fraction of their cost. What a deal! Just a wonderful performing glass that will impress anyone.
I don't see how Zen-Ray does it. Thanks for a great binocular. (Posted on 11/28/10)

Crisp and clear image, high contrast.
Almost none chromatic aberrations on center - true apochromat.

Resolution on edges is lower, but good for wide-view 65 deg. binocular.

Eye relief is small for me (I wear glasses), I see 80-90% FOV - but image is very comfort and this binocular is good for me .

In the last months I looked trought different binoculares included the A-class European brands.
Sorry, but I was dissapointet for the build-quality (focus-knob) and the feeling in the hand+face for two of them (Leica+Zeiss).
And the price:It is a meanness!
The only one I could say,it has a good price/optic/feeling relation is Meopta.
I looked for a better one for halb the price.Impossible?
I own the Zen ED2 7x36 (I'm happy I red from this brand in a US forum, because I never heard from this brand before) for a few days now and can say: I'm happy, never again have to look for a better pair.
The sweet spot ,brightness, and absolutely little CA,wide field of view,is unbeliveable, specially for this price.
The focus knob has little play, but it is fast and precise to focus nevertheless.
The service from Zen Ray is also very good.My first pair ED2 had a problem with the ocular. They gave me this new one without any postage paid.
    Thank you Zen-Ray

I've been using the 7x36 ED2 for the last 2 weeks. I'm impressed with the bright view. I also like the wide FOV so that I can track birds in flight easily. I also appreciate the great depth of field -- I don't need to change the focus often from close to far.

The only suggestion I have is to have a better design for the objective lens covers -- they fall off very easily so I take them off when I use the binoculars.

Overall a great binocular and excellent value. (Posted on 9/11/10)

    beautiful optics!

Looking for several options for 7x power. The ZEN ED2 keeps on popping up from review forums. I decided to get it a try even though I have never heard of them until 3 weeks ago. The ergonomics and sweet spot are just perfect. I didn't expect I can get this much out of a $400 binoculars. My previous binos costed $1500. But I need 7x power. The build is solid. I like its light weight and euro style open bridge. Another pair I got was Vortex razor, which also gets a lot of good reviews. But ZEN ED2 smoked the Razor so bad for half of the expense. Definitely worth every penny. Thank you. (Posted on 9/9/10)

Order it online from Zen-Ray.com/store on Saturday. It was delivered on the following Monday. A big thumb up for fast delivery service. I spent the last couple of weeks chasing deers in the woods with this binoculars. The resolution and brightness is unbelieveable, especially when you consider the price. My friend has a pair of expensive european made binoculars that costs over $2000. We put them side by side, the ZEN ED2 7x36 just surpassed it in every aspect in optics deparment. Great job done. got a pair of 6x Vortex viper from a local bird shop. It was very good. But a friend of mine showed me his 8x ED2 and I was duly impressed. However, 8x is too much magnification for my advanced age. I decided to try the 7x36ED2 after seeing a review somewhere that compared it to viper. After two weeks trial, I decided to keep the 7x36 ED2 for better optics and less money. If someone is looking for wide angle binoculars, you should take a serious consideration to the 7x36 ED2. These are all right for their value; the image is not as bright and precise as the A level German stuff using Schott glass. I mean Minox's HG series by name. Of course the pricing is 50-70% of those, too.

I really appreciate bright clear images, and did not find it these. (Posted on 8/2/10)
