Excellent All Around with Wide Angle Zoom Review by FrankD
Value Quality Price I posted a review of this scope back in July when I first received it. I have had the opportunity to try out the 25-50x wide angle zoom on this scope for a few months now.
To summarize what I am about to post next....with the wide angle zoom you really don't need any other eyepiece to cover 99% of the applications you would intend to use this scope for.
The major selling points of this scope with the wide angle zoom eyepiece include:
- A bright, incredibly sharp image not only at 25x but at 50x as well. There have been several occasions where I have used the scope and left it set at the 50x setting. When I later took the scope back out to use again I totally forgot that it was at 50x and didn't really notice until I went to go work the zoom adjustment. Yes, at 50x there is practically no loss of apparent brightness or apparent sharpness.
- Edge performance is exceptional. The image really is sharp from one edge of the image to the other with no noticeable blurring of the image. There is a bit of a compression of the image at the edges but the image is still sharp with no darkening on the edges whatsoever.
- Eye relief is entirely acceptable and may actually improve as you move up to the highest magnification setting.
With such a wide field of view at all settings it is difficult finding the need to utilize a fixed power, wide angle eyepiece. This eyepiece has proven extremely useful not just for casual observation but for digiscoping as well.
If you want truly "Alpha" optical performance and cannot or do not want to spend $300-$4000 then this is certainly the scope/eyepiece combination for you. (Posted on 10/10/11)
